Premier Foot Pain and Plantar Fasciitis Treatment in Austin, Texas

Do you have a bruised, achy, or stabby feeling on the heel or bottom of your foot? Are you experiencing pain or swelling under the arch of your foot - especially in the mornings?

If the heel of your foot has been causing you discomfort, you could have plantar fasciitis. The Mayo Clinic reports plantar fasciitis (pronounced as "PLAN-ter fash-ee-EYE-tus") is one of the most common causes of heel pain!

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis?

The plantar fascia is the thick ligament that runs along the bottom of the foot from the heel to the toe. This tissue helps stabilize your foot and create its arch. It is believed that stress and strain to the area often causes repeated small tears to that tissue, allowing it to become weak, inflamed, and swollen.

The pain from plantar fasciitis is normally worse in the morning, especially when taking those first few steps after getting up. The pain usually decreases after you’ve been up awhile but may return after you’ve been walking, standing, or sitting for long periods.

Certain conditions that may contribute to plantar fasciitis include:

  • The construction of the foot – flat feet, high arches, tight tendons at the back of your heels, a tendency for the foot to roll inward while walking, and other abnormalities
  • Repetitive, stressful activities i.e. jobs that require walking or standing on hard surfaces, running, or specific sports
  • Extra pounds
  • Improperly fitting footwear
  • Aging – plantar fasciitis occurs most frequently in middle-aged people
  • Injury

If you mentally checked “yes!” to any of the above factors, be sure to call us today for an exam!
