Active Life Chiropractic Clinic Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1What are your Chiropractic and other healing / medical services?

We are a complete Chiropractic Clinic. What does that mean? It means that we address a patient’s issues from musculo-skeletal structure complaints and pain, to chemical/nutritional and emotional imbalance.

Specific services we currently offer:

  • Multiple chiropractic techniques
  • Weight loss with consultations and invisared Lipo laser machine
  • Therapeutic postural and rehab exercises
  • Graston (for scar tissue and adhesions from past injuries)
  • Decompression for herniated lumbar or cervical discs
  • Cold Laser therapy (for increasing circulation and decreasing pain)
  • Ultrasound for acute muscle spasms and nursing mothers)
  • Estim for acute muscle spasm
  • Body Code and Emotion Code (sometimes gets to the "root" cause of pain when nothing else has worked. Patients have to be approved before being accepted for therapy so please ask your doctor for more information.)
2What techniques do your Chiropractic doctors specialize in?

Between our two chiropractors we have most chiropractic techniques covered. Currently we offer manual adjustments, drop-piece adjustments, activator techniques, as well as Graston and purely soft-tissue techniques. One of our doctors also does muscle testing and uses a technique called Body Code (similar to Body Talk) and Emotion Code work (for more information ask your doctor during your visit).

Let the doctors or front desk know what you are looking for and we will make sure you see the right provider.

3How much will my new patient Chiropractic appointment cost? Do you accept most insurances for Chiropractic treatments?
This depends on your insurance and benefits. The good news is, no matter what, the maximum we will collect on your visit is $150.00. After you make an appointment, we will check your benefits. Please be assured we will not do anything that costs you money without consulting both you and your benefits.

You are always welcome to come in for a FREE telehealth consultation - no strings attached. We’d love for you to meet our doctors and get a feel for us, and then if you want to go forward with a new patient exam, the MOST we will collect is $150.00.

4How long will my first, and subsequent, appointments take?

On the first appointment (after your free telehealth consultation) we do a complete history, exam and potentially x-rays. If you have your paperwork filled out in advance that could take no longer than 60 minutes. If you don't have your paperwork filled out you will most likely need to add on 20 minutes.

5What makes you DIFFERENT from other chiropractors in Austin, especially those cheap “Drive-Through” style clinics that get you in/out in in 15 minutes?

There are lots of chiropractors to choose from in Austin, but we stand out for a variety of reasons.

One being that we have 2 chiropractors on staff with a combined 80 years of experience, knowledge, and skill. We are much more than just a chiropractic clinic, as we also offer integrated holistic healing treatments for the whole body, mind, and soul.

We also offer many powerful services such as massage, rehab, weight loss/nutrition, Emotion Code, allergy and sensitivity tests, and much, much more.

Secondly, when it comes to your BODY, you want to go to someone who is thorough and experienced, even if that takes a little more time. We like to KNOW our patients. It is NOT all about the adjustment - getting in and out as quickly and cheaply as possible. It’s about seeing YOU as a whole person and keeping YOU doing what you LOVE to do.

OUR process is THOROUGH, individuated and we look at the WHOLE person.

6Do you have more than one location in Austin, Texas?

No, not at this time. But we are conveniently located in South Austin, in the Tree of Life Urban Retreat Center on 312 W. Stassney Lane, between South Congress and South First Street.

7Will I get treatment (chiropractic, massage, adjustment, Graston) the first visit?

Depending on the doctor’s assessment of your condition, we sometimes can offer treatment on the first visit.

If you want to get a massage on the same day you should make a separate appointment.

8Why do I have to do paperwork on my initial appointment, and why do I do the same paperwork every time?

We are a chiropractic clinic and we have to make sure we address any issues you might have. Having this complete paperwork makes sure we do NOT miss anything that may be important. We know it can be a hassle sometimes, but it’s for your own good and well-being! The daily paperwork is to give the doctors an update, and we need it for medical-legal reasons, as well. So we thank you so much for your patience and understanding with this!

9Why do you take x-rays for Chiropractic treatment? Can I bring in x-rays or imaging studies from other health care facilities?

Our doctors are very thorough and it is amazing what we sometimes find on x-rays. It actually helps the doctors rule out any reason you should NOT get adjusted. It also allows the doctors to give precise and therapeutic adjustments and design an exercise program customized specifically for you. Our goal is to not only help you with what symptoms you may be having NOW, but we also want to help you avoid future problems.

If you have any concerns about the x-rays you can talk to the doctor.

2nd question:

YES , please bring any and all imaging studies (x-rays, MRIS, Cat schans, lab work etc ) . We can also request your records but if x-rays are over 3 years old or you have had new injuries or symptoms we may need to take new ones but we will use what you have already had done if possible.

10Can I just come in for a “Quickie” adjustment or do you recommend treatment plans?

Our doctors always do a complete work up and then your program is tailored toward your individual needs, taking into account your health condition as well your desires. We make our best recommendations and then honor what course of action the you - the fully informed patient - wants to make.

Our doctors live by the motto "First do NO harm", so please keep in mind that if you have not been in for awhile (ie over 3 months), we would want to update your file and identify any new injuries or issues (allow 20 min if you have no new injuries).

If you have never been in, we do need to go through our new patient process. It is AMAZING what sometimes we discover by going through a patient's' history and exam. We LIKE to connect all the dots so you have a complete picture or recommendations based on all the facts. :)

But after that first visit you just need a "quickie" adjustment we can probably accommodate you...as long as we think that is in your best interest.

The reason why we DO recommend ongoing treatments is this - think about it like braces on your teeth. The braces are helping repositioning the teeth. Unfortunately we cannot put a 24/7 brace on your spine. Instead, we schedule the appointments so that they build on each other.

Just like going to the gym you get the best results by going at least 3x a week. If several visits a week is just not feasible for you, you can talk to the doctor or case manager and they can see what the 2nd best solution would be for you so that you can experience the best results possible.

Some of our patients can ONLY come in on Saturdays and they still get results - but it may take a little longer. We will always work with you. Our recommendations are based on BEST and Quickest results but if that is NOT possible, we will figure out the NEXT best course of action.

11Does my insurance cover Chiropractic treatment?

After you make an appointment we can verify your insurance and we never do anything without you knowing EXACTLY what it would cost. We will always work with you to help you get the care you need. We accept most major medical insurances , auto accident insurance, medicare (for the adjustment part of your visit) and have affordable cash plans.

12If I have time restraints, can I get in and out of the office quickly?

Yes - just let us know in advance!

The ADJUSTMENTS are the most important thing, so if you don't have time for additional treatments we may recommend (such as rehab when warranted*), just let us know, but don't skip your appointments.

*If rehab is recommended, it’s great if you take full advantage of what we have to offer and your visits could take longer but they are WORTH IT. We have found that doing the rehab we can provide in our clinic not only helps patients feel better, quicker, but also leads to longer lasting results.

Luckily we are here until 7 PM during the week and also have Saturday appointments available so you can take full advantage of our services when it’s most convenient for you!

13Do you take Medicare or Medicaid for Chiropractic treatments?

Yes, we take medicare for chiropractic adjustments.

We do not accept Medicaid at this time.
